by Ernest C. ReisingerWhat Should We Think of Evangelism and Calvinism?
by Ernest C. ReisingerCan I embrace the doctrines of grace as seen in the five points of Calvinism and still remain passionately evangelistic! If I become a Calvinist, will I be destined to join the cold, calculated, doctrinally dull, "frozen chosen"? Obviously, the questions we have just posed are somewhat degrading in their nature and intent. A much higher consideration would be; are these doctrines true! But, let's be honest about our fears and prejudices. As a pastor, I must know what my motivation is, not only for evangelism but for the whole of ministry to which I have committed my life. If God has sovereignly ordained before the foundation of the world those who will be saved, what difference do my efforts mate! I suspect that many who read this booklet are struggling as I did with this very issue.
This is J. M. Carroll's work on Baptist heritage. This is the Landmark Baptist perspective on church history and is greatly flawed because of Mr. Carroll's careless use of groups that only claim a Baptist lineage. You will find His Chart here with explanation.

A Primer on Baptist History: The True Baptist Trail
This is, we think, a more accurate account of Baptist history than that of the Baptist successionists. This author, Chris Traffansted, suggests that the modern Baptist denomination originated in England and Holland in the early seventeenth century, with its roots in the Reformation.
Baptists: The Only Thorough Religious Reformers
This John Q. Adams was not the famous founding father of America, but an American Baptist pastor who was a contemporary of C.H. Spurgeon. He met Spurgeon in London, August, 1868, and Spurgeon informed him that he had used 'Baptists, The Only Thorough Reformers as a text book in his Pastor's College, regarding it as the best Manual of Baptist principles he had met.
